New firm and collection improve prospects for design

Irish design has not had an easy year, but 2009 has seen the launch of a new Irish design product firm, and the launch of a new collection from an established furniture design store.
Kooyong Design
Tallaght-based Kooyong Design, (the name means 'resting place' in the Australian Aboriginal langauge) a new product design firm founded by designer Davin Larkin, aims to give Irish designers the chance to design and market products to the public.
Davin Larkin told architecturenow.ie about the company's aim. 'Basically we sell Irish-designed and produced furniture. Our products are limited editions, but they are often produced in batch runs so we can sell them at an affordable price. The designs are a mix of contemporary and classic – they're timeless, they're not going to go out of style.'
Larkin is currently seeking Irish designers to design new ranges. 'I've designed the first range myself and as the company picks up I'll talk to designers and visit college shows and talk to graduates.'
The current range of products can be viewed by appointment in the Kooyong showroom. Contact details can be found on the company website.
