Michael Kennedy Ceramics at Showcase

Showcase 2010 played host to one of Ireland’s leading ceramic artists, Michael Kennedy. His work is inspired by Irish landscapes and legends and his many travels across Europe, with colours reflecting the natural beauty of our surroundings in nature. Michael studied fine art at the Crawford School of Art and School of Art and Design, Sligo.


He completed his studies at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin and then returned to Sligo where he opened his first gallery and pottery in the Market Yard. He later opened another gallery/shop in Gort where he developed a special technique in firing red glazes.


His pottery is both functional and aesthetic and are create using a range of firing techniques from the traditional to salt firing and Japanese Raku firings. He exhibited a range of his work at the show including new porcelain lamps and Raku animal sculptures.
