New Competition for Loft Style Dwellings in Prague

A competition for a distinctive mixed-use development comprising residential ‘loft’ style dwellings in the Q5 Waltrovka area of Prague has been launched by the RIAI.
The competition is a two-stage architectural design and competition winners will be commissioned on a design only basis. This competition is specifically concerned with the group of buildings in ‘The Lofts’ zone.
The site is 2.45ha in size and is level with some existing buildings retained. It is a quiet northwest corner located opposite older villas and wooded hillside. The project should cater for a younger, more design orientated lifestyle to give vibrancy, texture and life to the more conservative commercial and residential product on the balance of the Waltrovka project.
The competition is open to persons who are currently included on the Irish Register of Architects. Submissions for Stage 1 will be evaluated on quality and innovation in architectural design and compliance with the competition brief.
Competitors who are short listed for Stage Two of the competition must be available to travel to Prague for a workshop on the following dates: Tuesday, 29 and Wednesday, 30 June 2010.
Deadline for submissions is 18 June
