Restaurant and Theatre Building, Dundalk Institute of Technology

The Restaurant and Theatre Building caters for the needs of students and staff of the Dundalk Institute of Technology, while the theatre element also serves as a regional performance and cultural venue for the wider community. The Masterplan, developed by the Dundalk Institute of Technology had called for the creation of a core outdoor space in the heart of the overall campus. This space would create a focus for the link between the original campus to the north and the newly acquired PJ Carroll's Building and lands to the south.

The construction of the 3,000m2 Restaurant and Theatre Building was realised by the Dundalk Institute and the Department of Education through a competition awarded to Bennett Construction, in which Van Dijk Architects and Bennett had collaborated on a modern and individual design. Through this innovative partnership deal, the college has received a modern state-of-the-art building sited to enclose the northern edge of the site and forming a new civic square in lieu of 15 acres of land adjacent to the PJ Carroll's factory.
