Design Brief and Urban Form
The Media Cube provides affordable commercial office space specifically aimed at young companies aspiring to work within Europe's expanding digital media market. The project brief consists of a suite of incubation units, commercial research and development offices, an embryo unit, support facilities, communal café areas and display/ presentation areas.
While providing a unique commercial facility relative to the Institute's educational activities, the projects also aims to create an entrance building to the campus. The Media Cube is seen as signalling the new arrangement of the campus and providing a public reference point for IADT. The project therefore marks the development of an overall master plan, which will see student housing, sports facilities and renewed landscaping strategies, while expanding the existing teaching facilities. The project is a "bridge" between IADT as an educational facility and the commercial digital media market that will employ many of its graduates.
